Custom Content

Original custom content is one of the biggest ways to improve your website.  When you add content to your site, you add more keywords and keyword phrases.  Plus, the size of your "book" in the internet library gets bigger.  When you write blog posts or articles off-site that link back to your website, you help drive outside credibility to your website.

Types of Content:

  • On-site Web Pages
  • On-site Blogs
  • Off-site Blogs
  • Off-site Articles

All of these types of content are important.  Doing just one type will only improve one facet of your search engine marketing.  Doing them all will give you a well rounded approach that keeps you competitive online.

On-site Web Pages

Adding additional pages to your website is a great way to communicate to your customers what you do or what products you have to offer.  If you are a dentist, you will want to have information on all of the services you offer.  Let's say you have information about "Teeth Cleaning" but not "Braces" on your website.   Since you have no content on "Braces" there is no reason why your website would show up when someone is looking for a dentist who provides braces.

On-site Blogs

Blogging is a great way for you to communicate with your clients and customers on an ongoing basis.  By providing timely information you can answer common questions or let them know about future specials.  Blogs are normally more informal than other pages published on your website.  A good blog will link to other important pages of your website and even other websites that provide more information on the subject you're writing about.

Off-site Blogs

Writing about yourself on your blog is good, but having someone else write about you from their blog is also helpful.  If someone writes a blog post and links from their blog to your website, it shows the search engines that they think you are a trustworthy resource.  If the search engines have a lot of respect for that person's site, you will gain even more credibility.

An article is much more official than a blog, and it gives you a chance to show off your expertise.  An article will have more detail and newsworthy information than a blog post, and can be written like a news piece or an informative paper with opinions from an expert in the field.  There are many places for an article to be published and a good article could go viral, ending up on very large websites giving the author a lot of visibility.
